Techniques

Create long sections using the following techniques.

Controls

The controls available is dependent upon the technique used.

Control Description
OK Compute the location for the current long section segments.
End Ends the current long section and stores it in the project.
Back Remove the last segment from the long section.
Abort Cancel the creation of the long section.

When using informative mouse pointers:

Mouse Pointer Description
Pen Cursor Insertion Mode - Click the location of the intersection point in the long section view.
Edit Cursor Edit Mode - An editable control will inherit its value from the vertex you click in the model view.
Not Allowed Not Allowed - Move to the long section region in the long section view.
Notes
  • The methods available is dependent on the active view.
  • Long sections are defined by vertical intersection points. Vertical intersection points are defined by a distance/chainage along the alignment and a height.
  • Long sections are created on the active layer unless otherwise specified.
  • Only intersection points (grade points) are created using the create tool. Use the Modify tool to insert curves at intersection points.
  • Long section grade points created using the Create tool are assigned a Source Type 'Computed'.
  • Long sections must be within the extents of the horizontal alignment assigned to the long section view.
  • There is no shared topology with vertical intersection points. You can create another point at the same location but they will be independent of each other.
