Requirements
  • Profile module
  • Active Long Section view
Controls
Control Description
Name Type a name for the created long section or click Next auto incremented name to use the next available auto incremented name.
Note:
  • The name for long sections must be unique.
Use name as layer Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to place the long section on a layer with the same name as the long section.
  • Clear the checkbox to place the long section on the active layer.
Note:
  • Place each long section on a different layer so you can control which long sections are visible in the long section view.
  • If a new layer is created it is given the same settings as the layer template. If a layer template has not been specified the active layer settings are used as the default.
From Input the from point.
Note:
  • This control is filled automatically after the first segment is inserted.
Distance Input the horizontal distance from the From Point.
Note:
  • Click 2 points or a line in the long section view to insert the horizontal distance between the points.
Reverse Direction Select the checkbox to apply the distance back towards the start of the alignment.
Grade Input the grade from the From point using one of the following modes: Note:
  • Click near the start of a line segment in the long section view, to input the grade from the start of the line to the end of the line.
Notes
  • Click OK to display the location of the computed intersection points.
  • Click End to accept the location of the intersection points and create the long section.
  • A long section intersection point must be created within the extents of the horizontal alignment.
  • Click Single Select to discontinue inserting and return to the select mode.
  • Click Esc to discontinue the creation of the long section.
  • Use the Modify Curve tool to insert circular or parabolic curves at vertical intersection points.
  • If the Distance is applied in the reverse direction:
    • a positive vertical angle is applied in a clockwise direction from the horizontal directed back towards the start of the alignment.
    • a positive zenith angle is applied anti-clockwise from the zenith.
Possible errors
Error Description
The computation has no solutions. An intersection could not be found within the extents of the horizontal alignment. Check the sign of the grade, or increase the grade or decrease the distance so that the created point is within the bounds of the horizontal alignment.
