Create by Existing Vertex

Description

Create a point, line, alignment, polygon or block from an existing vertex.

Access

Home / Tools / Create / Point or Block / Existing Vertex

Home / Tools / Create / Line or Alignment or Polygon / Straight or Spline / Existing Vertex

Requirements
  • Solve module
  • Design module (Alignments with horizontal design standards)
Controls
Control Description
Name Type the name to be assigned to the created object or click Next auto incremented name to use the next available auto incremented name.
Block Definition Click Browse and select a block definition.
Note:
  • Visible only when creating blocks.
Rotation Input the rotation for the block.
Note:
  • Visible only when creating blocks.
Vertex Input the vertex to form the object.
Note:
  • For Create Point or Create Block, if a vertex is currently selected, this control is unavailable.
Skip vertices with points (Create point only) Select to prevent the creation of additional points for a vertex.
Skip vertices with blocks (Create block only) Select to prevent the creation of additional blocks for a vertex.
Copy attributes (Create point and block only) Select to copy attributes from a selected object to the points or blocks created from the objects vertices.
Create on layer of object (Create point and block only) Select to create the point or block on the same layer as the selected object.
Notes
  • Perform the operation on:
    • A single vertex - Input the vertex to be used in the creation of the object.
    • A selection of objects (Create points and blocks only) - Valid objects in the current selection will have a point or block created at each vertex.
  • A straight segment is created between the objects previous vertex and the input vertex.
  • Objects are placed on the active layer unless the Create on layer of object checkbox is selected. If the vertex is used by more than one object, a hierarchy is used to determine which object the created point or block will inherit the layer from. First the layers Intended Use, then the object type, then the lowest unique id is used to determine the object.
    • When creating points, the layers intended use is considered in the following order; points, lines, polygons, generic.
    • When creating blocks, the layers intended use is considered in the following order; generic, points, lines, polygons.
    • For both points and blocks, the object type is considered in the following order; points, lines, polygons, blocks, shapes, terrain models, text, images.
  • If Copy Attributes is selected with Create on layer of object the attributes from the object used to determine the layer are copied.
  • If Copy Attributes is selected and Create on layer of object is not selected, first the object type, then the lowest unique id is used to determine which objects attributes are copied to the created object.
  • When creating objects from vertices in a reference file the Skip vertices with points, Copy attributes and Create on layer of object settings are not applicable.
  • When creating a line, alignment or polygon, you can type a range of point names in the Vertex box using the format first point name..last point name. Points between the first and last points are joined sequentially.
  • When typing a range of points to be joined ensure:
    • The point names within the range of points are unique.
    • The non numerical part of the name is identical.
    • The start and end point names do not differ numerically by more than 1000.
  • When creating alignments, in the Create Options, configure the Alignment Velocity and the Horizontal Standard to automatically create curves and combined curves at intersection points that comply with the design parameters.
