Description

Displays the geometry properties of the selected object.

Geometry

The geometry properties displayed will be determined by the object type selected. You can view geometry properties for the following objects.

Lines
Property Description
Length Displays the total length of the line in 2 dimensions.
Length 3D Displays the total length of the line in 3 dimensions.
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the line.
Segment Count The number of segments in the line.
Segment Type the segment number to display or click Scroll up or Scroll down to scroll through the line segments.
Type The type of segment:
  • Straight
  • Circular Arc
  • Clothoid (Full)
  • Clothoid (Partial)
  • Bloss (Full)
  • Bloss (Partial)
  • NSW Cubic Parabola (Full)
  • NSW Cubic Parabola (Partial)
  • Spline

The segment properties displayed is determined by the line segment type.

Straight Segment Properties Description
Segment Length The 2 dimensional length of the straight segment.
Segment Length 3D The 3 dimensional length of the straight segment.
Bearing The bearing of the line segment.
Start Expand the node to view the coordinates of the line segments start vertex.
End Expand the node to view the coordinates of the line segments end vertex.
Circular Arc Segment Properties Description
3D Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to interpret the radius as 3 dimensional, and view arc geometry properties in 3 dimensions.
  • Clear the checkbox to interpret the radius as 2 dimensional and view arc geometry properties in 2 dimensions. In Plan view the arc will display as a circular arc. In 3d view the line will be drawn on the 3 dimensional plane constructed from vertices defined for the arc.
Segment Length The 2 dimensional length of the circular arc segment.
Segment Length 3D The 3 dimensional length of the circular arc segment.
Radius The 2 or 3 dimensional radius.
Arc Distance The 2 or 3 dimensional arc distance.
Chord Bearing The bearing between the start and end point.
Chord Distance The 2 or 3 dimensional chord distance between the start and end point.
Tangent Distance The 2 or 3 dimensional tangent distance.
External Distance The 2 or 3 dimensional distance from the intersection point to the mid-point of the line.
Middle Ordinate The 2 or 3 dimensional distance from the mid-point of the arc to the mid-point of the chord.
Segment Area The 2 or 3 dimensional area bounded by the chord and the circular arc, .
Sector Area The 2 or 3 dimensional area bounded by the circular arc and reference lines running from both the start and end points to the centre point.

Centre Expand the node to view the coordinates for the circular arcs centre vertex.
Mid Expand the node to view the coordinates for an additional vertex in the circular arc.
End Expand the node to view the coordinates for the circular arcs segments end vertex.
Transition Curve Segment Properties Description
Segment Length The 2 dimensional length of the transition curve segment.
Segment Length 3D The 3 dimensional length of the transition curve segment.
Entry Tangent Bearing The bearing of the tangent at the start of the transition curve.
Note:
  • For partial transition curves, the bearing is the tangent bearing of the full transition curve.
Exit Tangent Bearing The bearing of the tangent at the end of the transition curve.
Note:
  • For partial transition curves, the bearing is the tangent bearing of the full transition curve.
From Radius The 2 dimensional radius at the start of the transition curve.
Note:
  • A negative radius indicates the transition curve direction is anticlockwise.
  • Displayed when the direction of the transition is from minimum radius to maximum radius for a full transition curve.
To Radius The 2 dimensional radius at the end of the transition curve.
Note:
  • A negative radius indicates the transition curve direction is anticlockwise.
  • Displayed when the direction of the transition is from maximum radius to minimum radius for a full transition curve.

End Expand the node to view the coordinates for the lines end vertex.
Spline Segment Properties Description
Segment Length The 2 dimensional length of the spline segment.
Segment Length 3D The 3 dimensional length of the spline segment.
Intermediate Count Number of sections in the spline.
Intermediate Type the spline section to view or click Scroll up or Scroll down.
Start Expand the node to view the coordinates of the line segments start vertex.
End Expand the node to view the coordinates of the line segments end vertex.
Alignments
Property Description
Length Displays the total length of the alignment in 2 dimensions.
Length 3D Displays the total length of the alignment in 3 dimensions.
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the alignment.
Segment Count The number of segments in the alignment.
Segment Type the segment number to display or click Scroll up or Scroll down to scroll through the alignment segments.
Type The type of segment:
  • Straight
  • Circular Arc
  • Clothoid (Full)
  • Clothoid (Partial)
  • Bloss (Full)

Polygons
Property Description
Planimetric Area Displays the plane area of a polygon.
Surface Area Displays the surface area of a polygon.
Breakline View or select if the polygon will be used as a breakline or a boundary when it is used in the creation of a terrain model.
  • No - The line or polygon is not considered a breakline.
  • Yes - The line or polygon is considered a breakline.
  • Boundary - The polygon is considered a boundary.
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the polygon.
Segment Count The number of segments in the polygon.
Segment Type the segment number to display or click Scroll up or Scroll down to scroll through the polygon segments.
Type The type of segment:
  • Straight
  • Circular Arc
  • Clothoid (Full)
  • Clothoid (Partial)
  • Bloss (Full)
  • Bloss (Partial)
  • NSW Cubic Parabola (Full)
  • NSW Cubic Parabola (Partial)
  • Spline

Surface Area Displays the surface area of the shape.
Faces Number of faces in a face set.
Vertices Number of vertices in a face set.
Length Displays the depth of the shape.
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the shape.

Property Description
Surface Area The surface area of the pipe shape.
Volume The volume of the pipe shape.
Diameter View or Edit the diameter of a pipe shape.
Length The 2 dimensional length of the pipe shape.
Length 3D The 3 dimensional length of the pipe shape.
Bends View or select how pipes are joined at bends:
  • None - Pipes are not joined.
  • Sharp - Pipes are joined with a sharp bend.
  • Smooth - Pipes are joined with a smooth bend.
Start Cap View or select how pipes are capped at the start:
  • None
  • Flat
  • Hemispherical
  • Semi Elliptical
End Cap View or select how pipes are capped at the end:
  • None
  • Flat
  • Hemispherical
  • Semi Elliptical
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the pipe.
Segment Count The total number of segments in the pipes shape.
Segment The segment currently displayed.
Type The segment type.

Terrain Model
Property Description
Extents Expand the node to view the coordinate extents of the terrain model.
Faces The number of terrain model faces selected.
Planimetric Area The plane area of the selected terrain model or terrain model faces.
Vertices The number of vertices in the selected terrain model or terrain model faces.
Notes
  • Length, diameter, area, grade and surface area is displayed in the current units.
  • 3D lengths are always grid distances regardless of the distance type configuration.
  • Bearing and distances are displayed using the current bearing and distance type configuration.
  • The arc components are displayed using the 3D setting.
  • In order to convert arcs between 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional, the arc centre may be recomputed. The topology of circular arcs will not be broken in order to convert the arc. You can use the Modify Convert tool, to convert circular arcs and break the topology where necessary.
  • The initial Breakline property value is determined from the Breakline layer setting at the time the object is created or from the imported file.
  • If you edit the Invert Height, Middle Height or Obvert Height of a pipe, the other height values for the pipe are automatically adjusted while maintaining the end vertices horizontal location.
