Description

Edit a layer's general properties.

Controls
Control Description
Name Type the layer name.
Description Type the layer description.
Intended Use Select the object type that the layer is intended for:
  • Points - The layer is intended for points.
  • Lines - The layer is intended for lines.
  • Polygons - The layer is intended for polygons.
  • Generic - The layer is intended for more than one object types.
Visible Select the checkbox to display objects from the layer in the work area.
Clear the checkbox to hide objects from the layer in the work area.
Lock Select the checkbox to lock a layer.
Clear the checkbox to unlock a layer.
Plot Select the checkbox to plot object on the layer.
Clear the checkbox exclude objects on the layer from the plot even when the layers objects are displayed.
Use in Terrain Model When the objects Use in Terrain Model property is configured to By layer:
  • Select the checkbox to use valid objects on the layer in the creation of the terrain model.
  • Clear the checkbox to exclude objects on the layer in the creation of the terrain model.
Breakline Select if a created or imported line, alignment or polygon is considered a breakline or a boundary when it is included in a terrain model:
  • No - Lines, alignments or polygons placed on this layer are not considered a breakline.
  • Yes - Lines, alignments or polygons placed on this layer are considered a breakline.
  • Boundary - Polygons placed on this layer are considered a boundary. Lines or alignments placed on this layer are considered breaklines.
Transparency Type the value to use for the transparency effect when the Transparency is configured to By Layer. A lower value results in objects being more transparent. Used to display the layers polygons, terrain model faces, shapes and blocks.
Notes
  • A space at the start or end of a layer name is invalid.
  • All object types can be place on any layer regardless of the Intended use setting.
  • Use Intended use for ASPEC, importing, exporting and during feature code processing.
  • If imported points are inserted on a layer with the Intended Use set to Lines or Polygon then consecutive points with the same code may be joined during feature code processing.
  • String codes and control codes will be used to join lines during feature code processing regardless of the Intended Use set for the layer.
  • If 00 is placed at the end of the code, points will never be joined regardless of the intended use for the layer.
  • Only objects on visible layers can be selected.
  • Objects on locked layers can be selected, viewed and examined, but not deleted or edited.
  • You can create an object on a locked layer.
  • If an imported file includes information on whether a line, alignment or polygon is a boundary or breakline, this setting will override the Breakline layer setting.
  • The draw order of a layer with transparency is significant to achieve the desired results. Draw transparent objects last.
  • Set Transparency to By Layer in the Display Options.
