Create a text object that displays the difference between two objects.

Controls

The following controls are available.

Control Description
Type Select the type of text object to create.
Style Select the style to use for the text.
From Depending on the Type selected, do one of the following:
  • For Area text, input the first polygon.
  • For Bearing and Distance text input the first reference line.
  • For Coordinate text, input the first vertex.
To Depending on the Type selected, do one of the following:
  • For Area text, input the second polygon.
  • For Bearing and Distance text input the second reference line.
  • For Coordinate text, input the second vertex.
Preview Displays the computed value that will be inserted as a linked text object.
Notes
  • Create new text styles in Manage Text Styles.
  • The created text object displays the difference between the first and second object.
  • The text object's position is relative to the first object.
  • The value of a text object is dynamically updated if the coordinates of one of the vertices it is linked to changes.
  • Computations are performed using the rounding defined in the text style.
  • Where multiple rounding settings are used to display objects due to different line lengths or areas the rounding from the first object is used to compute the comparison.
  • Created text is displayed using the text style settings.
  • Where multiple units settings are used to display objects due to different areas the comparison value is displayed in the units from the first object.
  • To create text using coordinate text styles where Easting or Northing is selected in the Type control, in the projects Unit Options, select Grid as the Coordinate Type.
  • Distance comparison text can be created for straights and chords only. Text styles based on Arc and Radius Length Types are not supported.
Warnings

The following warnings may display.

Warning Description Solution
The selected style has a different Direction Type to the configured units. The Direction Type specified in the project units is different to the Direction Type specified in the selected text style. The created text may use different directions to those displayed in the Preview box. Edit the project settings or text style, or click OK to create the text using the text style settings.
The selected style has a different Distance Type to the configured units. The Distance Type specified in the project units is different to the Distance Type specified in the selected text style. The created text may use different distances to those displayed in the Preview box. Edit the project settings or text style, or click OK to create the text using the text style settings.
The selected style has a different Area Type to the configured units. The Distance Type specified in the project units is different to the Area Type specified in the selected text style. The created text may use different areas to those displayed in the Preview box. Edit the project settings or text style, or click OK to create the text using the text style settings.
