Description

Copy, cut, and delete selected objects. Paste objects from the clipboard.

Control Description
Copy Click to copy the selected object(s) to the clipboard. The insertion vertex is the centroid of the selected object(s).
Click down arrow then select By insertion vertex Insertion Vertex to copy the selected object(s), relative to an insertion vertex. Pick the insertion vertex to copy the selected object(s) to the clipboard.
Cut Cut the selected object(s) and place in the clipboard. The insertion vertex is the centroid of the selected objects.
Click down arrow then select By insertion vertex Insertion Vertex to cut the selected object(s), relative to an insertion vertex. Pick the insertion vertex to cut the selected object(s) and copy them to the clipboard.
Paste Click, then using the mouse, point and click a location in the model or drawing view to insert the contents of the clipboard.
Click down arrow then select Original Location to paste the contents of the clipboard in the model view using the object(s) original coordinates. If the object was copied by insertion vertex, the insertion vertex is ignored.
Delete Delete selected object(s).
Notes
  • Select the object to cut or copy prior to clicking the command.
  • If multiple objects or insertion vertices are close together, tentatively pick the object before confirming the selection.
  • Objects can only be pasted into the same view type that they were copied from.
  • Copying and pasting linked text, disconnects the text from the object and converts the text to static text.
  • Objects are pasted to their original layer. If the layer does not exist a new layer with the same name is created.
  • Objects copied from a reference file will be placed on the same layer as they appear in the referenced project.
  • Objects from a reference file or a locked layer cannot be cut or deleted.
  • To select an insertion vertex by freehand, press Ctrl then using the mouse, click a location in the model or drawing view.
  • When copying or cutting a drawing object by insertion vertex, the snap setting will influence the pasted location and the location of the insertion vertex when selecting a location by freehand.
Possible errors
Error Description
The data being pasted is in the 'Coordinate System Name' coordinate system. The selected object you are trying to paste is in a different coordinate system to the current project.
Click Yes to paste the objects. A coordinate transformation will not be performed.
Click No to cancel the paste operation.
Note:
  • The coordinates must be within the extents of the projects coordinate system to be pasted.
