(This topic is for use with the Survey Live module)
This topic assists in setting up the required communications between the sensor and Survey Live.
Depending on the sensor, various communication options involving radio, blue tooth and cable are available.
1. Configure the Sensor
Select the relevant sensor for detailed instructions.
- Total Stations
- Leica Viva TS15
- Leica TPS1200 (Note that Firmware v8.2 or later is required for this equipment to work with Survey Live)
- Leica FlexLine
- Leica TPS1100
- Leica TM30 (Note that Firmware v8.2 or later is required for this equipment to work with Survey Live)
- Topcon GPT-3000
- GNSS
- Leica Viva GS15
- Leica GX1230 (Note that Firmware v8.2 or later is required for this equipment to work with Survey Live)
2. Configure the communications device to be used with the Windows Computer running Survey Live
Ensure Survey Live is closed as well as any other applications that may be using a port you may need.
Then refer to (a), (b), or (c) below as appropriate (depending on the communications technique selected for the sensor in step 1).
Alternatively, more detailed information is available for the following devices.
- Ruggedised Tablets
(a) For radio communications
Install the radio device and the software supplied with the device as per the supplier instructions.
Configure the radio device as a COM port on the computer and to have compatible comms settings with the radio device used with the sensor.
Note the port that the radio is assigned to as you need this in step 3 [Refer to: Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Ports (Com & LPT)].
(b) For Bluetooth communications
If Bluetooth is not already available on your computer, install the appropriate Bluetooth device and software according to suppliers instructions.
If you have not previously done so, establish a Bluetooth partnership with the sensor configured in step 1, configuring the Bluetooth device as a COM port on the computer and to have compatible comms settings with the sensor. Detailed instructions follow.
- Windows 7
(i) Select Start / Control Panel / (Hardware and Sound) / Devices and Printers and then select “Add a device”. Alternatively right click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray of the Windows taskbar and select “Add a device”.
(ii) Select the sensor that was configured in step 1 and press Next. For example, a Leica Viva TS15 will have a name like TS1234567 where 1234567 is the serial number of the instrument.
(iii) Select “Enter the device’s pairing code”
(iv) Enter the pairing code required for the particular sensor and press Next. (For example, 0000 as the pairing code for a Leica Viva sensor). The drivers will be installed. Once that is completed the connection will be ready to use.
(v) Note the outgoing COM port that the Bluetooth is assigned to as you need this in step 3 [Refer to: Start / Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Ports (Com & LPT)]. - Windows XP
(i) Select Start / Control Panel / Bluetooth Devices. On the Devices page, select “Add”. Alternatively right click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray of the Windows taskbar and select “Add a Bluetooth device”.
(ii) Select the sensor that was configured in step 1 and press Next. For example, a Leica Viva TS15 will have a name like TS1234567 where 1234567 is the serial number of the instrument.
(iii) Select “use the passkey found in the documentation”
(iv) Enter the pairing code required for the particular sensor and press Next. (For example, 0000 as the pairing code for all Leica sensors). The drivers will be installed. Once that is completed the connection will be ready to use.
(v) Note the outgoing COM port that the Bluetooth is assigned to as you need this in step 3 [Refer to: Start / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / Ports (Com & LPT)].
(c) For cable communications
Install the appropriate cable and software supplied with the cable according to suppliers instructions.
Note the port that the cable is assigned to [Refer to: Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Ports (Com & LPT)]
3. Configure Survey Live to communicate with the sensor
Run LISCAD SEE and use File/Open or File/New to open a project.
Select Task/Survey Live
Select the Survey Live menu item to display the Survey Live dialog
Select the Configure/Sensor page to select the sensor you are using and the appropriate communications parameters. Note the Port must be set to the port assigned in Step 2.
[If you are unsure which com port to use, Select Start / Control Panel / (Hardware and Sound) / Devices and Printers. Find your sensor and double click on it (or right click and select Properties). Select to the Hardware tab where you will see the name of the com port that is associated with this device.]
Select the Test button to check that communications is correctly established. If a GNSS sensor was configured in Step 1, additional configuration pages become available once communications is correctly established.
