Notes
  • You can choose if a new image service is placed on the active layer or a new layer, created using the name of the image. If the active layer already contains an image service you cannot add a new image service.
  • Select Images in the Display Options
  • Use the Layer tool to control the visibility of the image.
  • When in 3D mode, select the Background Images in 3D Display Option to display the entire image.
  • In 3D view, you can use the image as a texture for terrain model faces. Configure Display Options to display images and terrain model faces, and the terrain model Face Colour to 'Object'.
  • An Internet connection to the active image service must be possible for the images to be displayed.
  • Images downloaded from image services are cached on the disk of the computer. The location of the cache can be configured via General Options.
  • Caching images can improve performance by loading previously downloaded images from the cache rather than downloading them again over the Internet.
  • The image cache can be cleared via Add or Edit an Image Service.
  • You can only place either a single feature service or a single image service on a layer.
  • The image service displayed is the one placed on the layer with the highest draw order.
  • An image service can be used in conjunction with Georeferenced Images.
  • Images used for texturing are downloaded at a level of detail influenced by the plan scale set via Display Options. The smaller the plan scale, the more detail in the images. The level of detail is limited by the capabilities of the graphics driver. Some image services may not have data at all zoom levels and could return tiles with blank or default content. In that case the plan scale can be adjusted to get valid image data.
  • When exporting to other systems, images are downloaded at a level of detail influenced by the plan scale set via Display Options.
  • Image brightness is maintained when printing and exporting to AutoCAD, MicroStation and LISCAD CAD.
  • WMS versions 1.1.1 and 1.3.0 are supported.
  • WMTS version 1.0.0 is supported.
  • When exporting an image from an image service, a JPEG and JGW (world file) are created.
  • When exporting a georeferenced image, click Options to configure the image dimensions.
  • For the background image to be printed the image service must return image tiles suitable for the printer resolution. The resolution of your printer will likely be higher than the resolution of your computer screen. You may see the image tiles displayed on your screen but not in your printed document.
