Define or select a user defined format for importing points from a text file.

Controls

Use the following controls to select or save a group of settings.

Control Description
Name Enter the name of the configuration set.
Save configuration set Save the current settings in the selected configuration set.
Delete configuration set Delete the selected configuration set.

Configure the user defined import format.

Control Description
Format Select one of the following formats:
Delimited - Values in the text file are separated by a Delimiter.
Fixed Width - The text file contains columns of fixed width.
Delimiter For delimited files, select the method used to separate values in the file.
Skip Lines Type the number of rows in the file header to ignore.
Minimum Height Type the allowable minimum height for a point.
Maximum Height Type the allowable maximum height for a point.
Layer Lookup Table Select a lookup table to map layers or codes in the file to layers in the project.
Note:
  • A blank selection indicates that no lookup will be performed.
Control Codes Select a control code table to use when codes are processed (Optional).
Process Codes Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to process codes on import, joining points where appropriate using control codes, string codes or the intended use of the layer.
  • Clear the checkbox to place points on the appropriate layer. String codes and the intended use of a layer are ignored. Control codes are treated as feature codes.
Units Click units to define the units for the values in the imported file.
Columns Map columns in the file to project attributes:
  • Select the checkbox in the Active column to map values in the file to the attribute.
  • To ignore a column in the file, select an <Ignore> checkbox.
  • Click Up or Down to move the selected row up or down the order.
  • Press and hold Shift then click Move up or Move down to move the selected row to the top or bottom of the order.
OK Click to import the file.
Close Click to cancel the import but retain any saved changes to the Configuration Set.
Notes
  • Order the selected project attributes in the same order as columns in the imported file.
  • Preview the mapping of file values to project attributes, to ensure the specified format is correct.
  • An <Ignore> attribute is only required if the column to ignore is followed by columns you want to import.
  • At least one configuration set must remain in the list.
  • Separate feature codes and control codes by a space within the Layer/Code column.
  • The String Number column is used for line creation during code processing and is not imported as an attribute of the point.
Possible errors
Error Description
Invalid or unsupported data on line. The value may be mapped to an attribute of different type.
