Create By Grid

Description

Create points at grid intervals within a boundary.

Access

Home / Tools / Create / Point / Point by Grid Grid

Requirements

A terrain model or polygon.

Controls

The controls available depend on the Mode.

Control Description
Mode Select the technique for defining the grid origin:
Centroid - Use the centroid of the selected objects.
Coordinates - Insert the coordinates.
Vertex - Insert a vertex.
Vertex Input the vertex. The origin Easting and Northing values are automatically inserted. Required when the Mode is Vertex.
Easting Input the easting coordinate for the origin.
Northing Input the northing coordinate for the origin.
Bounding Object Input the polygon or terrain model to use as the extents of the grid.
Note:
  • This control is disabled if a terrain model or polygon is already selected.
  • You must select the entire model, not just a terrain model face.
  • The boundary is two dimensional only.
X Interval Input the distance between created points along the X-axis.
Y Interval Input the distance between created points along the Y-axis.
Rotation Input the rotation of the grid.
Height Method Select one of the following methods to input the heights for the grid points:
Notes
  • Click Solve to preview the points in the grid.
  • Click OK to create the grid points.
  • The X axis is in the east direction when the rotation is 0 and there is no user coordinated system.
  • The Y axis is in the north direction when the rotation is 0 and there is no .
  • Intervals are grid distances.
  • Points are not created within holes or gaps in a terrain model or polygon.
  • You can select multiple terrain models or polygons to use as boundaries. Point grids will be created for every object selected unless the objects overlap.
