Control Description
Active Layer Select or view the active layer.
New Layer Do one of the following:
  • Click to create a new layer using the characteristics of the template layer. If a template layer is not specified, default settings are used.
  • Click Down arrow then click New Layer Group to create a new layer group.
Clone Layer Create a new empty layer with the same characteristics as the active layer.
Edit Layer Edit the active layer.
Adopt Layer Set the layer of the selected object as the active layer.
Isolate Layer Turn off the visibility of layers that do not contain objects in the current selection and set the active layer to the layer in the selection with the highest draw order.
Hide Layer Turn off the visibility of layers that contain objects in the current selection.
Move Layer Move the selected objects to the active layer.
Apply Layer Do one of the following:
  • Click to apply the display characteristics of the objects layer to the selected objects. Only the display properties selected in Settings are updated.
  • Click Down arrow then click Settings to select the display properties to apply.
Show All Turn on the visibility of all layers, including layers that are not displayed in the list.
Notes
  • Control the layers that appear in the Active Layer list using the Layers tool Filter.
  • You cannot select a reference file layer as the Active Layer
  • Clone a layer to copy attribute definitions to another layer.
  • If the Active Layer description is truncated, hover the mouse pointer over the description.
  • The current selection determines the availability of some layer tools.
  • The settings for Apply Layer Defaults are saved for each user.
  • The Apply tool does not alter text using text styles.
