Importing Data from Another System

(The Input / Output module is required for this procedure.)

This procedure is used to import data from another system. Refer also to the Tables topic in the Concepts section of the help. You may obtain additional help by clicking the underlined topics. If you do select an underlined topic, you may return to this procedure by clicking the Back key.

  1. Ensure that the required data base is open.
    Refer to the procedures for creating or opening a data base.
  2. Ensure that there is an existing code table with the feature codes and attributes correctly defined to match the feature codes used in the file to be imported from the other system.
    Alternatively ensure that there is an existing lookup table which matches the codes used in the file to be imported to the required codes and attribute settings of the code table to be used.

  3. Select the Data Conversions task.
  4. Select the Import menu to display the import you require. If the import format you require is not on the menu select Add / Remove from the bottom of the menu to add your required import format to the Import menu.
  5. The dialog displayed next will depend upon the particular import selected and the choices you are able to make. Make your choices and press OK.
  6. Any errors or warnings encountered in the import process are written to the ERROR file. View or print any such errors using the Data Conversions/Errors menu.
