Creating a Best Fit Line or Arc

(The Computations module is required for this procedure.)

This procedure is used to create a Best Fit line or arc with relation to a set of specified points. The resulting line or arc may then saved to the currently open data base.

  1. Ensure that the required data base is open.
    Refer to the procedures for creating or opening a data base.
  2. Select the Computations task.
  3. Use the Edit/Best Fit command to run the Best Fit Editor.
  4. Use the mouse to graphically select the points to be used for the best fit. Alternatively, type the point identifiers into the Point ID column.
  5. Use the Solve/Line or the Solve/Arc command to compute the best fit line or arc and display the offsets to the selected points.
