The Best Fit Editor is displayed after selecting the Computations/Edit/Best Fit command. It is used to create a line or arc that forms the best fit to a set of specified points. Refer also to the Best Fit Procedure.
The colours used in the Best Fit Editor are set using the Utilities/Configure/Colours/Table command.
Item | Used to |
Cells | Display the data in the currently open control file and to select
the active cell enabling its value to be edited. The currently active cell is highlighted with a border. The currently active cell is selected by clicking the required cell with the mouse or by using the arrow or Tab keys to move the border to the required cell. |
Pt Id Column | Display or edit the identifiers of points that are selected. |
Offset | Display the offsets from the best fit line or arc to the selected points used in the best fit computation. |
Tool Bar The following special tools are available in the Control File Editor.
The tools run the following commands (in order from left to right).

Edit/Insert | Insert a blank line into the editor. | |
Edit/Delete | Delete a line from the editor. | |
Edit/Add Block Points | If a Block is active, then any points satisfying the Block conditions are added to the editor. | |
Edit/Exclude | Exclude points in the editor from the Best Fit computation. | |
Edit/Fixed | Set the status of a point in such a way that the computed Best Fit line or arc must pass through it. | |
Solve/Line | Compute a Best Fit line for the selected points in the editor. | |
Solve/Arc |
Compute a Best Fit (clockwise) arc for the selected points in the
editor. If selected, you will be given the option to define a radius for the best fit arc. It is not necessary to enter a radius. |

Solve/Circle |
Compute a Best Fit (clockwise) circle for the selected points in the
editor. If selected, you will be given the option to define a radius for the best fit circle. It is not necessary to enter a radius. |
