Settings/Instrument

(This functionality is available with the Input / Output module)

Sets the vertical circle observation mode, the estimated standard deviations of observations and the required coordinate quality for GNSS observations.

The Settings/Instrument command is selected from the Field Transfer task.

Instrument Settings dialog box

Item Used to
Vertical Circle: Set whether the vertical circle observations are in Zenith, Elevation or Nadir mode.
The selection made will be stored in any subsequent field files created from the Field Transfer/Input commands. Note however if a field file is created from a RAW file using the Resolve/Create Field File command, and the vertical circle type is contained in the RAW file, it will be used in preference to the type set here.
The vertical circle mode is stored in each field file as record type 035. Refer to the Field File Structure topic for further information.
Standard Deviations Set the estimated standard deviations of observations for Distance, Vertical Circle, Direction and Elevation Difference.
These values are used to compute the standard deviations of single observations when the Resolve/Adjustment/File/Extract command is used to extract control observations from a field file to a control file. Note that for means of observation sets, these values are not used and instead the standard deviations of each sample are computed in a rounds report. If the rounds report standard deviation is zero, the standard deviation reverts to the value in the Instrument Settings dialog divided by the square root of the number of rounds. The resulting standard deviation values may be edited for particular observations using the Control File Editor which is accessed via the Resolve/Adjustment command.
Coordinate Quality Set the required coordinate quality of GNSS observations for Horizontal Position and Elevation.
These values are used when observed coordinates with GNSS coordinate quality values are encountered in the reduction process (i.e. when using Field Transfer/Resolve/Reduce Field File). If the coordinate quality of the GNSS coordinate is outside the tolerences entered here, then a warning is provided in the field file reduction report, and the option is provided to either continue the reduction or cancel.
Note that the if there are GNSS Coordinate Quality values available, they will be in the field file as record type 510.
