Leica TPS-300

(This functionality is available with the Input / Output module)

Data transfer between the TPS-300 Total Stations and the system

You must have the TPS-300 connected to the computer via the serial port.

When using the Field Transfer/Input/Data Recorder or the Field Transfer/Output/Data Recorder commands with a TPS-300 device selected, ensure that the selection for the Comms Settings are the same on the instrument and the computer.

The TPS-300 instruments utilise a user definable data format file to define the format of the data downloaded to the computer. There is a default format file called Tps.frt installed in the default User folder . This file is set up to define a format suited to the system. You may create your own format file using the Leica Survey Office TPS-300 tools, and replace the existing file with a different format of the same file name. Be very careful if you do this, as the format must be compatible with the TPS-1000 series data formats.

It is recommended that RECmask 1 (the default) is NOT set on the instrument as each record will be interpreted as a new set-up by LISCAD.

Operation Code Support

The Leica TPS-300 supports all the LEICA/WILD Operation Codes . You may use the Leica Survey Office TPS-300 tools to create a Code List and upload it to the instrument. The Code List must be created to match the format file used. For the default format file, (Tps.frt), use one of the Code List files (TPS300.CRF, TPS300oc.CRF) located in the default User folder . Refer to the recording processes for each CRF file documented below:

TPS300.CRF
This is a TPS-300 code list which contains alpha-numeric feature codes only. This can be used on the instrument to record feature codes of points and lines in conjunction with the instruments SET button.

Using this code list on the instrument, THE FEATURE CODE MUST BE SELECTED BEFORE TAKING THE MEASUREMENT, according to the steps below:

  1. Use Wildcard (*) to obtain screen that allows the user to step through the stored code list.
  2. Step through the code list until the appropriate feature code is found.
  3. If necessary, enter attributes i.e. String Number etc.
  4. Use the SET button to initialise the feature code.
  5. The feature code will be attached to the measurement when the ALL button is pressed to record a measurement.

Note: The REC button should NOT be used.

TPS300oc.CRF
This is a TPS-300 code list which contains numeric feature codes and alpha-numeric LISCAD operation codes. This code list can be used on the instrument to record feature codes and operation codes in conjunction with the instruments REC button.

Using this code list on the instrument, THE FEATURE CODE MUST BE SELECTED AFTER TAKING THE MEASUREMENT AND OPERATION CODES ARE TAKEN BEFORE OR AFTER THE MEASUREMENT DEPENDING ON ITS DEFINITION . Refer to the steps below:

  1. Use Wildcard (*) to obtain screen that allows the user to step through the stored code list.
  2. Step through the code list until the appropriate feature code or operation code is found.
  3. If necessary, enter attributes i.e. String Number etc.
  4. Use the REC button to record the feature or operation code. (Using SHIFT UP Key)
  5. Steps 2 to 4 may be repeated to enter consecutive codes. (E.g. New feature code followed by an operation code).

Note: The SET button should NOT be used.

Transferring observations from TPS-300 Instruments.

Ensure that you have carried out the appropriate steps in the procedure for Processing a Field Survey up to the step for initiating the transfer of the data. Then, carry out the following.

  1. If the format file on the instrument is not the one that was previously uploaded by LISCAD.
    1. Select a format file from the dropdown list (Available format files are in your user folder).
    2. Select the format slot on the instrument into which you wish load this format file. If a format slot is selected that already contains a format file, this will be overwritten.
  2. Select the job whose observations you wish to download.
  3. Press OK to commence the data transfer.

Transferring co-ordinates to TPS-300 Instruments.

Use the Output/Data Recorder command to put LISCAD in a ready state to send co-ordinates to the instrument.

Ensure that the Output Point Coordinates dialog "Update File As:" field has a name beginning with an alpha character.

A dialog box should be displayed asking if the data recorder is ready to receive data.

  1. Press OK.
  2. A new dialog box will be displayed indicating that correct communications are being established. This may take a few seconds as existing job names on the instrument are listed.
  3. Select the job slot into which to upload the co-ordinates. Press OK. If a job slot is selected that already contains data, this will be overwritten.
  4. A few seconds will elapse as the new job name is set and data transfer will then commence.
