Data Import to MicroStation DGN

Description

Import data from MicroStation DGN.

Access

Home / Data / Import / MicroStation DGN

Requirements

Xchange MicroStation module

Options

The following properties allow control of the import.

General Description
Content Displayed - Only objects that are visible will be imported.
All - All objects are imported regardless of whether they are visible or not.
Curve Tolerance Enter the maximum offset distance from a line to the chord between adjacent vertices in the line. Use this value to control the smoothness of a cells circular arcs and splines in when they are exploded to as straight line segments. Note:
  • Used when importing non circular arcs, ellipses and complex objects that require conversion to straight segments.
Import Cells As Select one of the following:
  • Plan Symbols - Cells are imported as plan symbols and instances of cells as points with the plan symbol applied.
  • Blocks - Cells are imported as block definitions and instances of cells as a block.
  • Individual Objects - Cells are exploded into individual objects.
Import Faces As Select one of the following:
  • Shapes - A triangle mesh or mesh is imported as a face set.
  • Terrain Models - A triangle mesh or mesh is imported as a terrain model.
Note:
  • Only mesh face loops which contain faces with 4 or less vertices are imported when Terrain Model is selected.
  • Terrain models are always imported as terrain models regardless of this setting.
Import Sheets Import sheets as CAD drawings.
Merge Terrain Models Triangular meshes or terrain models on the same layer will be merged into a single terrain model.
Lookup Tables Description
Layer Select the Layer lookup table to map Microstation levels to layers.
Plan Symbol Select the Plan Symbol lookup table to map Microstation cells to symbols.
Line Style Select the Line Style lookup table to maps MicroStation standard line styles to the standard line styles.
Hatch Select the Polygon Hatch lookup table to be used during the import.

A blank selection for a lookup table indicates that no lookup will be performed.

Notes
  • You can import Lines, Line Strings, Multi-Lines, Arcs, Ellipses, Shapes, Cells, Shared Cells, Point Strings, Bspline Curves, Curves, Text, Text Nodes, Complex Chains, Cones, Surface Cells, Bspline Surfaces, Meshes, Feature Solid, Grouped Hole, Point Cloud and Terrains.
  • The layers visibility is determined from the Microstation file.
  • Irregular curves are imported as line segments.
  • A point cloud mesh is imported as points.
  • Graphic cells are always exploded on import.
