Data Export to MicroStation DGN

Description

Export data to MicroStation DGN.

Access

Home / Data / Export / MicroStation

Requirements

Xchange MicroStation module

Options

The following properties allow control of the export.

General Description
Content If there are objects selected then only selected objects are exported.
Displayed - If no objects are selected then only visible objects are exported.
All - If no objects are selected then all objects are exported regardless of whether they are visible.
Version Select the MicroStation version of the exported file.
Seed File Click Browse to select a file that the export is based on.
Cell Type Select the cell type used to export symbols and blocks:
  • Shared - Shared cells.
  • Annotation - Annotation cells.
Export 2D Circular Arc As If the project contains 2D circular arcs, select one of the following:
  • Automatic - Export 2 dimensional circular arcs with the same heights as 2D arcs with null heights and convert 2 dimensional circular arcs with different heights to polylines using the Curve Tolerance.
  • 2D Arc - Export all 2 dimensional circular arcs as 2D arcs with null heights.
  • Polyline - Convert all 2 dimensional circular arcs to polylines using the Curve Tolerance.
3D Select the box to output three dimensional data.
Clear the box to output two dimensional data.
Explode Line Styles Select to export line styles as lines rather than trying to match them to a MicroStation line style.
Explode Polygon Hatches Select to export polygon hatches as lines and areas themselves rather than trying to match them to a MicroStation hatch.
Export Drawings Select the checkbox to export CAD drawings as Microstation sheets.
In the Content box:
  • Select Displayed to export only the visible drawings
  • Select All to export all the drawings.
Background Colour Select the background colour to set in the file.
Curve Tolerance Enter the maximum offset distance from a line to the chord between adjacent vertices in the line. Use this value to control the smoothness of circular arcs, transition curves and splines that need to be output as straight line segments.
Open Exported File Select whether the file being created should be automatically opened when the export is complete.
Maximum Image Dimension Enter the maximum image dimension (width or height) for georeferenced images being exported. Valid values are between 500 to 50,000 pixels.
Lookup Tables Description
Layer Select the Layer lookup table to be used during the export.
Plan Symbol Select the Plan Symbol lookup table to be used during the export.
Block Definition Select the Block Definition lookup table to be used during the export.
Line Style Select the Line Style lookup table to be used during the export.
Hatch Select the Polygon Hatch lookup table to be used during the export.

A blank selection for a lookup table indicates that no lookup will be performed.

Notes
  • Microstation objects created during the export can include: points, lines, arcs, splines, polylines, cells, text, solids, faces, polyface meshes and raster images.
  • Objects on the 'Default' layer are exported to the existing Microstation 'Default' layer and their appearance will be determined from this Microstation layer.
  • If Open Exported File is selected the file will attempt to be opened using the application registered with the operating system as the default for that file type.
  • The value of Maximum Image Dimension controls the resolution of georeferenced images being exported. A higher value produces higher resolution images in the DGN file.
  • Blocks and point symbols are exported as cells.
  • Annotation cells will be scaled in Microstation using the annotation scale.
  • All object types on the same layer will be exported with a single colour.
  • When exporting from an image service, images are downloaded at a level of detail influenced by the plan scale set via Display Options.
  • Alignments and transition curves are exported as straight line segments.
  • Use a lookup to map line styles to microstation linestyles.
