Description

Create a two or three dimensional straight line from a selection of points or vertices.

Access

Home / Tools / Create / Line / Straight / Best Fit

Requirements
  • Solve Module.
Controls
Control Description
Name (Line) Type the name of the generated line or click Last name to increment to the next available name.
Add Click to add the selected points or vertices of a selected line to the list.
Remove Click to remove the points or vertices that are selected in the list.
Fit in 3D Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to generate a best fit 3 dimensional line using the vertices heights.
  • Clear the checkbox to exclude the heights from the best fit line calculations.
Height Method Select one of the following methods to input a height for the 2 dimensional line: Note:
  • Not available if Fit in 3D is selected
Hold Direction Select the checkbox to hold the direction of the line fixed.
Direction If the Hold Direction box is selected, input the direction.
Solve Click to preview the generated line in the model view and display the Offset value in the list.
OK Click to accept the generated line.
List Columns
Control Description
Name (Point) The name or unique Id of the points or vertices in the list.
Included Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to include the point or vertex in the best fit line calculations.
  • Clear the checkbox to exclude the point or vertex from the best fit line calculations.
Fixed Select the checkbox to give a point or vertex a higher weight than unfixed points when generating a best fit line.
Offset The computed perpendicular distance from the generated line to each point included in the calculation.
Note:
  • If you clear the Fit in 3D checkbox, these offsets are 2 dimensional.
Notes
  • For best results do not hold points or vertices fixed when holding the direction.
  • Use the computed offsets to detect outliers.
