Create a best fit circular arc segment from a selection of points or lines.

Controls
Control Description
Name (Line) Type a name for the generated line or click Last name to increment to the next available name.
Add Click to add the selected points or the vertices of the selected lines to the list.
Remove Click to remove the selected points or vertices from the list.
3D circular arc Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to generate a best fit 3 dimensional arc using the vertices heights.
  • Clear the checkbox to exclude the vertices heights from the best fit line calculations.
Create circle Select the checkbox to generate a circle that best fits the points or vertices.
Use fixed radius Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to input a known radius.
  • Clear the checkbox to solve for the radius in the best fit arc calculations.
Radius If you have selected Use fixed radius, type the known radius for the circular arc.
Note:
  • If you clear the 3D circular arc checkbox, this radius is 2 dimensional.
Solve Click to preview the generated line in the model view and display the Offset value in the list.
OK Click to accept the generated line.
List Columns
Control Description
Name (Point) The name or unique Id of the vertices in the list.
Included Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to include the vertex in the best fit line calculations.
  • Clear the checkbox to exclude the vertex from the best fit line calculations.
Fixed Select the checkbox to give a vertex a higher weight than unfixed vertices when generating a best fit line.
Offset The computed perpendicular distance from the generated line to each vertex included in the calculation.
Note:
  • If you clear the 3D circular arc checkbox, these offsets are 2 dimensional.
Notes
  • Include at least 3 points to solve the best fit calculation.
  • Use the computed Offset value to identify outliers.
  • If you clear the 3D circular arc checkbox the generated line and its centre point are assigned the default height.
