Grip Points

When objects are modified, selected objects display grip points that you will use to move, resize, rotate or edit the geometry of the CAD objects.

Grip Points Description
Vertex grip point Use this grip to modify the position of a single vertex in a CAD object.
Mid point grip point Use this grip to move the midpoint of the segment to the location of the mouse pointer.
Corner grip point Use this grip to resize or move a block, or a symbol.
Rotate grip point Use this grip to rotate text.
Objects

You can move or edit the following CAD objects:

Object Instructions

To alter the geometry of a selected viewport, click a grip point, then click the new location.
  • Click Vertex grip pointto resize a rectangular viewport in the X and Y direction.
  • Click Mid point grip point to resize a rectangular viewport in a single direction.
  • Click Vertex grip point to move the vertex of a free-form viewport.
  • Click Mid point grip point to move the entire line segment of a freeform viewport.
  • Click Vertex grip point to alter the radius of a circular viewport.
Straight Straight To move all selected objects click a line segment or polygon (avoiding a grip point) and drag to the required location.
To alter the geometry of a selected line or polygon, click a grip point, then click the new location.
  • Click Vertex grip point to move one end of the line.
  • Click Mid point grip point to move the entire line segment.
Note:
  • Moving a vertex or segment will alter the geometry of the adjoining line segments.
Circular Arc Circular Arc To move all selected objects click the circular arc or polygon (avoiding a grip point) and drag to the required location.
To move a single circular arc click the centre Vertex grip point of a selected circular arc, then click the required location.
To alter the geometry of a selected circular arc, click a grip point on the arc, then click the new location.
Spline Spline To move all selected objects click the spline or polygon (avoiding a grip point) and drag to the required location.
To alter the geometry of a selected spline, click Vertex grip point, then click the new location.
Circle Circle To move all selected objects click on the circle or polygon (avoiding a grip point) and drag to the required location.
To move a single circle click the centre Vertex grip point of a selected circle, then click the new location of the circles centre.
To resize, click Vertex grip point on the edge of the circle , then move the mouse and click to accept the new radius.
Rectangle Rectangle To move all selected objects click a rectangle edge (avoiding a grip point) and drag to the required location.
To resize, click a grip point, then move the mouse and click to accept the new size.
  • Click Vertex grip point to resize in the x and y direction.
  • Click Mid point grip point to resize in a single direction.
Note:
  • Press Ctrl while moving Vertex grip point to maintain the aspect ratio of the original rectangle.
Symbol Symbol To move all selected objects, click the symbol (avoiding a grip point), and drag to the required location.
To move a single symbol click Vertex grip point, then click the new location of the symbols centre.
To resize, click a grip point, then move the mouse and click to accept the new size.
  • Click Corner grip point to resize in the x and y direction.
  • Click Mid point grip point to resize in a single direction.

  • The grip tab you click determines how the object is moved.
  • When moving an entire object, all selected objects are moved.
  • When moving a vertex, all selected objects that contain a vertex grip point at the same location as the moved vertex will have their geometry altered.
  • The polygon geometry will determine where a line segment or vertex can me moved to.
  • To move a vertex to the same location as another vertex, tentatively select the vertex to move to when the construction lines or rubber band displays, then click to accept.
