(This functionality is available with the Computations
module)
Creates a new offset object between an existing point and a line.
The offset object can be created from the following line types: Lines, Arcs, Spirals, Splines, Splays and Radiations
Please note that the offset cannot be created from circles or another offset.
To run this option, select the Create/Offset command and the Method/Point & Line command from the Computations task to display the relevant dialog box.
The offset line to be created will be given the attributes currently defined via the Attributes/Line command.
If the offset point is located near the bend of the line it is offset from, then this will cause the offset line to be created to the corner point.
Create Offset by Point & Line dialog box
Item | Used to |
Line No: | Key in an existing line number that the point is to be offset from. Alternatively, you may snap to and accept an existing line. |
Point ID: | Key in an existing point identifier to be used as the offset point. Alternatively, you may snap to and accept an existing point. |
Apply: | Creates the offset from the point to the line. |
Cancel: | Closes the dialog box. |
Note:
The offset objects created using this method are tied very closely to the line they are offset to. For example, if the line is deleted the offset will also be deleted, or if the line is moved, the offset will update. Also if the point in the offset is moved, this will also cause the offset to update with respect to the line.
If the line is edited, this will cause the offset to be reconstructed/updated. But if, for example, the point is beyond the ends of the line, then the offset will be deleted.
