Computing a Volume to a Plane

(The Volumes module is required for this procedure.)

This procedure is used to compute a volume between a terrain model and a datum plane. You may obtain additional help by clicking the underlined topics. If you do select an underlined topic, you may return to this procedure by clicking the Back key.

  1. Ensure that the required data base is open.
    Refer to the procedure for opening a data base.
  2. Ensure that the required terrain model has been successfully formed and that it is currently selected in Display Features.
    Refer to the procedure for Forming a Digital Terrain Model.
  3. If a volume is only required of part of the model, ensure that a block which defines the required part of the model is active.
    Refer to the procedure for defining a block.
  4. Select the Volumes task.
  5. Select the Volume/Volume to a Plane command and use the Terrain Model Volumes dialog box to:
    • Key in the datum to which the volume is to be computed.
    • Specify the format of the output and whether it is to be output to the screen, printer or file.
    • Select the Compute button to calculate and output the volume.
