(This functionality is available with the Computations module)
Changes the dimension attributes of selected line objects based on the rules selected.
In particular, the rules can be used to automatically dimension lines with bearings and distances suited to cadastral subdivision plans.
The Edit/Attributes/By Rules command is selected from the Computations Task.
Edit (Line) Attributes by Rules dialog box
Item | Used to |
Line No. | Select the lines which will have their dimension attributes edited. The required lines may also be selected by block. |
Manage Rule Sets | |
Manage Rule Sets | Select the rule set that you wish to use. A DEFAULT rule set is provided initially with all available rules selected. |
Save | Save the settings of the currently selected rule set. |
New | Create a new rule set. |

Use polygon's code line attributes | If the line is part of a polygon, the line attributes of the polygon's code
will be used instead of the attributes of the line's code. If a line is in multiple polygons, the final polygon encountered in the process is utilised. Note that only those attributes selected via "Select Attributes" will be controlled by the polygon's line code. You should ensure that your polygon codes have appropriate line attributes set to meet your desired dimmension display. |
Select Attributes | Select which line attributes will be controlled by the polygon's line code. This is only applicable if the "Use polygon's code line attributes" option is selected. |
Use alternate line attributes | Apply alternate definitions to the following line attributes such that the positions of bearings, distances and radii are inside or outside a polygon, rather than left or right of their line object. Bearing Position Left is instead treated as Bearing Position Inside polygon. Bearing Position Right is instead treated as Bearing Position Outside polygon. Distance Position Left is instead treated as Distance Position Inside polygon. Distance Position Right is instead treated as Distance Position Outside polygon. Radius Outside Arc is instead treated as Radius Outside polygon. Radius Inside Arc is treated as Radius Inside polygon. Note that the alternate definitions can only apply if the line is part of a polygon. |
View Convention | Display the dimensions as upright readable from the bottom right of the screen.
Also ensures that the bearing is always left of the distance as viewed from bottom right of the screen when they are on the same side of the line. |
Bearing above distance below | Sets the bearing to be above the line and the distance to be below the line when an abutting lot uses the same line segment. Note that if View Convention is selected, above and below is referenced according to the view from bottom right, not the line direction. This option is useful for positioning dimensions for lines that are common to multiple polygons. |
Stacked inside for lines shorter than | Sets the bearing and distance stacked (i.e. bearing above distance on same side of line) inside the polygon for lines less than the entered distance. If the line is used in multiple polygons, the dimensions will be "inside" the polygon with the smallest area. This option is useful for positioning splay dimensions. |
Remove bearing | Removes the bearing from shorter abutting lines in the abutting polygons. Note that abutting lines are any pair, one in each polygon, that overlap anywhere along the lines. This option is useful for preventing unnecessary multiple display of the same bearing on abutting lines. |
Bearing and Distance side by side opposite short line distance | Set the bearing and distance of the longer abutting line to be side by side, and on the opposite side
of the line to the shorter line distance dimension. This option is useful for preventing abutting dimensions from being in the same screen position. |
Distance only for contiguous same bearing lines | Remove all bearings except one from contiguous lines of the same bearing. This option is useful for preventing unnecessary multiple display of the same bearing on contiguous lines of the same direction. |
Apply | Change the dimension attributes of the selected lines according to the rules selected. If Block is inactive, only the lines within the selected range will be edited. If Block is inactive and the entry field is blank, no lines will be edited. If Block is active, only those lines which are both defined by the block, and nominated via the edit field will be edited. If Block is active, and the edit field is blank, all lines defined by the block will be edited. |
