Edit a Leader Style - Position

Description

Edit the position properties of a leader style.

Control Description
Type Select one of the following to determine where on the text the leader will connect to:
  • Horizontal - Orientate the leader landing in the same direction as the text. The leader may extend from the start or end of the text.
  • Vertical - Orientate the leader landing perpendicular to the direction of the text. The leader may extend from the top or bottom of the text.
Note:
  • If you select 'Horizontal', moving the text may move the position of the leader from the left of the text to the right of the text or from right to left. If you select 'Vertical', moving the text may move the position of the leader from the top of the text to the bottom of the text, or from bottom to top.
Location Select one of the following to further control the location of the leaders connection to the text:
  • Top - Position the leader from the top of the text or text border.
  • Middle - Position the leader from the middle of the text or text border.
  • Bottom - Position the leader from the bottom of the text or text border.
  • Centre - When Type is set to 'Vertical', position the leader from the centre of the text or text border.
Landing Length Type the length, as a ratio of the text height, that the leader landing extends before it changes direction.
Note:
  • The Landing Length is only applicable when the leader is linked to text.
  • Type 0, if you do not want a landing.
Offset Type the offset distance between the text and the start of the leader landing, as a ratio of the text height.
Location Select one of the following:
  • Start - place the arrow at the start of the leaders landing pointing towards the text.
  • End - place the arrow at the end of the leader pointing away from the text.
Notes
  • Arrow symbols will only be displayed when there is adequate space.
  • The Offset and Landing Length value must be positive.
  • The landing is drawn parallel or perpendicular to the text depending on the Type.
  • If a leader is created using existing text, the leader is redrawn when the text :
    • is moved
    • is rotated
    • is resized by editing a text style, text properties, or the Plan Unit Scale.
    • has the text background or text border edited.
  • When creating a leader by freehand, the controls in the 'Text Connection' group are not used.
  • When leaders are created using existing text, you should ensure the Plan Unit Scale is set to the plan scale that the leader is intended for.
