Create by Grade Terrain Model Intersection

Description

Create a line or polygon where a projected grade from an object intersects with a terrain model.

Access

Home / Tools / Create / Line or Polygon / Grade Terrain Model Intersection

Requirements
  • Solve module
  • Terrain model

Controls

The following controls are available:

Control Description
Name Type the name to assign to the created object or click Next auto incremented name to use the next available auto incremented name.
Terrain Model Input a terrain model.
Object Input the line or alignment to apply a grade from.
Note:
  • Available when creating lines.
Polygon Input the polygon to apply a grade from.
Note:
  • Available when creating polygons.
Side Select the side of the object to apply a grade from.
Grade Select the units for the grade, then input the two possible grades.
Note:
  • Enter a rising grade as positive and a falling grade as negative.
Create vertices at terrain model face edges Do one of the following:
  • Clear the checkbox to create a line, only inserting vertices where the perpendicular grade from the existing lines vertices intersect with the terrain model surface. The created line is only coincident with the model at the lines vertices.
  • Select the checkbox to also insert vertices on the terrain model face edges where the defined plane intersects with the model, resulting in the created line following the terrain model surface when the plane intersects with the model.

Possible Errors
Error Description
The computation has no solution An intersection can not be computed from any of the vertices in the Object.
  • Ensure one of the grade lines intersects with the selected terrain model.
  • Check the side you are projecting from is correct relative to the direction of the object.
  • The computed polygon will only be created if the polygon edges do not cross.
Notes
  • Click Solve to preview the line or polygon, then click OK to create the object.
  • Click Reverse to apply the grade to the opposite side of the object.
  • Grades are applied to all vertices in an object. If the object contains curves, splines or transition curves, configure the curve tolerance in the Create Options to determine how regularly the grade is applied along the curve.
  • If more than one intersection is found the grade used is the grade that creates the smallest offset from the alignment.
  • The grade is applied perpendicular from the objects segment. At corners the vertex is placed in the direction of the bisector, however the grade is still applied perpendicular to the object.
  • When the command is operating on a picked open linear object, the end closest to the mouse pointer location is considered the start of the line.
  • When typing the object, or when the command is operating on a picked polygon or a closed linear object, the direction of the object is used to determine the side the grade is applied from. For clockwise polygons, set the Side to 'Left' to create the object on the outside.
