Controls

The controls available depend on the view being printed.

Control Description
Print Click to print the selected view.
Copies Select the number of copies to print.
Printer Select the printer.
Printer Properties Click to edit the printer properties.
Print All Pages You can print the selected page only.
Orientation Click the button so that the orientation you require is displayed.
Sheet size Select the sheet size.
Title Select the checkbox to include the project name and location.
Border Select the checkbox to include a border around the printed objects.
North Arrow Select the checkbox to include a north point.
Scale Bar Select the checkbox to include a scale bar.
Plot in Black Select the checkbox to plot white objects (FFFFFF) as white and all other object colours as black. Use this for printers that plot in grey scale when 'Black and White' colour is selected in the Printer Properties.
Note:
  • For drawings, you can set this in the properties of the drawing or drawing template.
Notes
  • Set the layers Plot control to Plot to plot a layers objects.
  • For a model view:
    • All objects displayed in an active model view are fit to the sheet size.
    • The objects displayed in the active view and the page size in the Print settings will determine the print scale.
    • White objects are inverted with the exception of text background, and polygons with Fill Colour set to 'By Background'.
    • You can set colour inversion for tables in the table properties.
  • For a Drawing View:
    • The print area of an active Drawing view is fit to the sheet size.
    • The print area and the page size in the Print settings will determine the print scale.
    • Set colour inversion for the drawing in the drawing properties, for viewports in the viewport properties and for tables in the table properties.
    • Text displayed with a background has its colour inverted when the text is the same colour as the background and Colour Inversion is selected.
  • Use a CAD drawing with a viewport and select Plot to plot objects at a specified scale.
  • Not all view and display options are supported when printing. The following are not supported:
    • Measurements
    • Scan Point Size
    • Shadows
  • Objects are printed using vector data where possible. Pixelisation from a raster plot may occur when zooming in on a PDF when the following is printed:
    • data in a 3D model view or viewport
    • data in a 2D model view with a 3D coordinate system
    • data in a 2D model view or viewport if colour banding is in use.
    • solid fill of complex polygons. (i.e. those with holes or multi-part)
    • symbols or hatches that contain complex polygons
    • text that is backwards, has a character spacing other than 1, or is inside a block with non-uniform scaling.
    • images from an image service.
    • data in a project with transparency when printing using Microsoft Print to PDF.
  • For a background image from an image service to be printed the image service must return image tiles suitable for the printer resolution. The resolution of your printer will likely be higher than the resolution of your computer screen. You may see the image tiles displayed in your model view or viewport but not in your printed document.
  • Polygons with a Fill Colour set to 'By Background', will always display using the background colour regardless of the Colour Inversion setting. Use the 'By Background' setting to colour a polygon that you want to use to block out objects that you do not want to display in the plan.
  • Text background colour will always print in the allocated colour unless you select Plot in Black.
  • If you select Plot in Black:
    • Colour Inversion is always applied prior to Plot in Black. A white object may be inverted to black due to colour inversion.
    • You can turn off colour inversion for tables, drawings and viewports to prevent some white objects being inverted.
    • Both text background and text may display in black. Ensure your text is white or the background is white.
    • Images and terrain model faces and polygons with the fill colour set to a colour band, will not be printed in black.
    • Text overlapping solid filled polygons, or terrain model faces with the face colour set to 'Object', will not be visible when printing from the model view. You should use a hatch or no fill if you need to view text.
    • Objects in raster plots may still appear grey.
