Editing Behaviour describes what happens to a profile (either a long section or a cross section) when the horizontal geometry (typically an alignment) is edited or moved.
Four options exist:
| Delete Affected | A Long Section point lying on top of a length of control line that is edited will be deleted. With Cross Section Sets, a section will be deleted if its section marker is moved. |
| Retain Affected | The distances along the long section will not be changed if the control line is edited. If an editing action causes a control line to become shorter, long section points beyond the area where the editing occurred will be moved further along the control line. With Cross Sections Sets, a section will remain at a particular section marker, even if the marker moves. |
| Scale Affected | Affected points will be retained, proportionally in the horizontal segment they were in originally. For example a point at the centre of a horizontal curve will remain at the centre of the horizontal curve when the radius of the curve is changed |
| Delete All | All points in the long section are deleted if any point is affected by the editing. |
The two latter ones apply only to Long Sections.
Affected
- A point in a long section is 'affected' if its distance places it over the top of a segment of the control line which changes length (the start and end points of the segment are moved by different amounts), or orientation (The end point is rotated wrt the start point of the segment)
- A section in a cross section set is 'affected' if the section marker it is attached to moves in plan. A section will always be deleted if its section marker is deleted. Sections will not be changed due to the editing of horizontal geometry, they are either retained as is, or deleted.
Initially: In a traditional road or rail design job, the "Existing Surfaces" long sections will exhibit the equivalent of "Delete All". "Design Surfaces" will either exhibit "Delete Affected" or "Scale Affected". Cross Sections are traditionally "Delete Affected". These are good values to start with until you feel you a have grasp on the possibilities available here.
This is set as part of the long or cross section parameters, and can be edited as part of the long or cross section.
