Floating Point by Grade on CurveCreate Floating Point at Grade on Vertical Curve

(This functionality is available with the Profiles and Design module)

Creates floating points along long sections on vertical curves at a nominated grade. Depending upon the curve selected and the grade entered two, one or no floating points may be created.

This function can be accessed from the long section view Profiles Task / Edit / Create Floating Point / at Grade on Vertical Curve.

The point to be created will be given the attributes currently defined via the Edit/Set Point Attributes command.

Create Floating Point at Grade by Vertical Curve dialog box

Item Used to
Long Section: Displays the name of the long section snapped to and accepted. To identify the curve along which the floating points are to be placed it is necessary to snap to the curve or the vertical intersection point. Only points with vertical curves attached can be selected.
Horizontal Curve Length: Displays the horizontal length of the vertical curve at the selected point.
Intersection Point
Chainage / Distance: Displays the chainage or distance (depending upon the alignment configuration) at the selected vertical intersection point.
Elevation: Displays the elevation at the selected vertical intersection point.
Grade: Enter the grade at which the floating points will be computed along the vertical curve. The grade can be entered either as a percentage or a ratio depending upon the units configuration.
OK: Compute the distance along the long section where the selected vertical curve matches the grade entered. This may result in two, one or no floating points being created along the curve.
Close: Closes the dialog box.

Note: Floating points are always placed at a nominated distance. Although these floating points are computed based upon grade they are stored by distance. Hence if the vertical curve is subsequently modified, the floating points will no longer be at the grade they were originally computed at, they will be at the same distance along the long section.
