Long Section by Alignment dialog box

Item Used to
Long Section name: Enter a new long section name into the list, or select an existing long section from the list. If the long section name has already been used, you will be given the option to overwrite it with the new long section when the OK button is selected.
This can be a unique name up to 31 characters.
Profile Along: Select the alignment.
This drop down list will display all existing alignments in the data base.
You can either select one from the list or if this field is active, snap to one in the Plan View. This will be the control line alignment.
Start Chainage or Start Distance: Enter the location for the start of the long section. The name of this field is dependent on what has been set as the Data Input By type in the Configure/Alignment dialog.
End Chainage or End Distance: Enter the location for the end of the long section. The name of this field is dependent on what has been set as the Data Input By type in the Configure/Alignment dialog.
When an alignment is selected these location fields will show values that represent the start and end of the complete alignment. If either field is active you can snap onto a point on the alignment to enter that location value.
Open Long Section in: Select if the long section is to be displayed when created. The user has three options, they are.
  1. Do not open - If this option is selected the long section will be generated and a long section view will not be created.
  2. New Long Section View - If this option is selected a new long section view will be created and become the current view when the long section is generated.
  3. Long Section View X - All existing long section views are available for selection from the list. They are named Long Section 1, Long Section 2, etc.
If there is only one existing long section view, then its name is "Long Section View".

If you enter a long section name that already exists and then create a long section, you will be asked to "Append", "Overwrite" or "Cancel". If you choose to append or overwrite and the relevant long section is currently being displayed in one or more long section windows, then all instances of it will be replaced by the new version of the long section.
Parameters: Open the Long Section Parameters Dialog Box.
Create: Generate the long section and close the dialog.

Notes:
This will create a long section along any alignment object. If the alignment selected is a secondary alignment the long section will be created with respect to its primary alignment.
The long section created will only be defined within the area where elevations can be extracted. For instance, if the alignment starts beyond the area of a model from which the elevations are being extracted, the long section will only commence at the edge of the model.
If the long section name used already exists a dialog box will appear asking whether to Append, Overwrite or Cancel.
Close: Close the dialog without generating a long section.
