Each polygon in a data base has a feature code. The code may be used when importing data into the system to define certain attributes of the polygon via a code table. The code may consist of up to eight characters or numbers. Note that although the code may be used to determine string attributes at the time of importing the point, those attributes can subsequently be altered by the user.
Codes are also used as a means of specifying different CAD attributes such as layers and text sizes when creating CAD files. For example, a description of a polygon with code X can be output to a CAD file at a different size and layer to a description of a polygon with code Y. These settings are made via the CAD Output/Settings/Codes command. Separating your data by code therefore provides total flexibility when you come to create a CAD file.
