(This functionality is available with the Computations module)
Examines the perpendicular horizontal offset of a point statically or dynamically with regard to any line types and also returns the distance along the line segment that the point is perpendicular to. In Static mode, the results include the perpendicular vertical offset, the perpendicular grade and and the elevation of the offset point.
The Examine/Offset/by Line command is selected from the Computations task.
Examine Offset by Line dialog box
Item | Used to |
Line | Key in a line from which the offset is to be measured. Alternatively snap to and accept a line to have its identifier placed in this field. |
Point | This field is only available in static mode. Key in the point identifier of the point to which the offset is required. Alternatively snap to and accept a point to have its identifier placed in this field and the offset displayed. Note that the selected point will not return an offset result if it is beyond the ends of the line object. To examine an offset beyond the line, use Examine Offset by Reference Line instead. |
Static | Select this mode to display the offset of the point to the line. Offsets to the left of the line are shown as negative. |
Dynamic | Select this mode to dynamically examine the cursor position. Displays the offset of the cursor position to the line. Offsets to the left of the line are shown as negative. |
Close | Close the dialog box. |
Please see Examine Chainage & Offset by Alignment for information about how offsets (and the shortest distance, or hypotenuse, to the line) are displayed.
