Controls
Control Description
Move Object(s) Using the mouse, click and drag the selected object(s) to a location in the model or long section view.
Move Click Down, then select the method for moving vertices:
  • Select Move Vertices to create topology between the moved vertex and the target vertex. The moved vertex will inherit the vertex id of the target vertex.
  • Clear Move Vertices to change the coordinates of the moved vertex to match the coordinates of the target vertex or freehand location but maintain the original vertex id.
Pick a vertex then move it to:
  • an existing vertex - In the model view, pick the new vertex. Press Shift before you click the new vertex to move in 2 dimensions only and preserve the height/z of the original vertex.
  • a freehand location - In the model view, press Ctrl then using the mouse, point to the location and then click. The moved vertex will retain its original unique id irrespective of the Move Vertices configuration.
Notes
  • When moving in a model view:
    • If multiple objects or vertices are close together, tentatively pick the object or vertex before confirming the selection to move.
    • Model view objects sharing vertices with an object on a locked layer cannot be moved.
    • Vertices shared with objects on a locked layer cannot be moved.
    • Vertices and objects from a reference file or a locked layer cannot be moved or edited.
    • When you move a vertex to an existing vertex, the height of the existing vertex is used. Press Shift prior to picking the existing vertex to move in 2 dimensions only and preserve the vertices original height.
    • If you press the Shift key to preserve the height of the original vertex, the vertices will not be merged regardless of the Merge Vertices configuration.
    • If a user coordinate system is selected:
      • You can only move a vertex to an existing vertex. It is invalid to move a vertex by freehand.
      • You can not select the 'Move Objects' command.
  • When moving in a long section view:
    • Moving a long section will move all associated key points.
    • Moving a long section point will modify associated long section segments.
    • Long section points will only be moved if moving the points does not break the geometry.
    • Objects will only be moved if the long section remains withing the extents of the horizontal alignment.
    • A vertical intersection point of type parabola or circular will behave like a grade point if moving the point results in a failure to compute a curve.
    • Objects on a locked layer cannot be moved.
    • Sag/Crest points cannot be moved.
    • Moving long section points will update the Source Type to 'Modified'.
Possible errors
Error Description
Failed to complete operation. 'Layer Name' layer is locked. The selected object cannot be moved as the object or its vertices are on a locked layer.
Update failed for Long Section 'Long Section Name'. The update would break the geometry. The selected object cannot be moved beyond the extents of the horizontal alignment.
