Data Export to Esri Shape

Description

Export data in the Esri Shape format.

Access

Home / Data / Export / Esri Shape

Requirements

Xchange Esri Shape module

Options

Control the export using the following options:

General Description
Content If there are objects selected then only selected objects are exported.
Displayed - If no objects are selected then only visible objects are exported.
All - If no objects are selected then all objects are exported regardless of whether they are visible.
Curve Tolerance Type the maximum offset distance from a line to the chord between adjacent vertices in the line. Use this value to control the smoothness of circular arcs and splines that need to be output as straight line segments.
3D Do one of the following:
  • Select the checkbox to output data in three dimensions.
  • Clear the checkbox to output data in two dimensions. Three dimensional vertices are exported with a zero height.
Coordinate Type Select the format of exported coordinates.
Note:
  • A geocentric coordinate system is required to export geographic coordinates.
Lookup Tables Description
Layer Select the layer lookup table to be used during the export.
Attribute Select the attribute lookup table to be used during the export.
Notes
  • Points, lines, and polygons and their associated attributes are exported.
  • Attribute names must be unique on each layer.
  • Attribute names are restricted to 10 characters.
  • Clear the Allow multiple checkbox for every attribute definition to ensure only a single instance of an attribute is inserted for each object.
  • Files are named Layer name (Object Type) when the layers Intended Use is set to 'Generic'.
  • Attributes within attribute groups are not exported.
Possible errors
Possible Error Description
No Projection is available. You have selected to export geographic coordinates and the project does not specify a geocentric coordinate system.
The file 'file name' already exists. Overwrite existing files? The export folder you have specified has been used previously for Esri shape files. Click Yes to overwrite existing files.
Attribute definition name 'attribute name' on layer layer name is not unique. There is multiple attributes defined for the layer with the same name. When exporting to Esri Shape files, each attribute defined for the layer must have a unique name.
Group attributes have not been exported. You have added group attributes to the exported objects. Group attributes are not supported by the Esri Shape file format.
Multiple instances of Point Point id attribute Attribute name have been found. The first attribute Attribute name has been exported. You have added multiple instances of an attribute to an object. The first instance of the attribute has been exported.
Only object type objects on layer layer name have been exported. The layers iIntended Use is set to points, lines or polygons. Only objects of this type will be exported to avoid duplicate table names. to export all data, set the Intended Use to 'Generic'.
