Produces a positional comparison report between points in the same or different data bases.
This feature is particularly useful for comparing design positions with as built positions. Points may be selected for comparison based on point identifier, or by radial and elevation search distances. The operation is also group sensitive and block sensitive.
The Report/Point Comparison/by Point command is selected from the Plan View Utilities task.
Compare points dialog box
Item | Used to |
Region Size |
Select a region size which will be used in the comparison process to index the data into a
number of regions. Selecting an appropriate region size maximises the speed of the comparison process. Typically, a region size between 250 and 1000 points will give the fastest results, but this will depend on the hardware being used and the amount of available memory. |
Comparison Method | |
Point ID | Specify that points are to be selected for comparison based on their point identifiers. For any particular point, only points with the same identifier will be selected for comparison. |
Location | Specify that points are to be selected for comparison based on their location. For any particular point, points within a certain radial distance and elevation difference are selected for comparison, regardless of their point identifier |
Search Criteria | |
Radial Search Only | Specify that points are to be selected for comparison based on their XY co-ordinate proximity only. The elevations will be ignored in the selection process. This check box will only be available if the Location radio button is selected |
Radius |
Key in the radial search distance to be used. For any particular point, points which are within the specified radius will be selected for comparison This field will only be available if the Location radio button is selected |
Elevation |
Key in the elevation difference search tolerance. For any particular point, points which are within the specified elevation difference will be selected for comparison provided however that they are also within the radial tolerance. This field will not be available if the Radial Search Only check box is selected |
Tolerance |
Key in the XY difference search tolerance. For any particular point, points that are within the specified XY difference will be selected for comparison, provided that they are also within the radial tolerance. |
Include In Report | |
Group | Specify that the Group name of each point is included in the report. |
Code | Specify that the Code of each point is included in the report. |
Description | Specify that the Description of each point is included in the report. |
Bearing and Distance | Specify that the plane bearing and grid distance to each point from the point it is being compared with will be displayed. |
Single Points | Specify that if there are no other points to compare a point to, the point will still be displayed. This is useful for example, where check measurements were to be taken to points, then if no check measurement existed to a point, the point would still be included in the report. |
Range |
Key in a point identifier or enter two point identifiers separated by two dots to specify
a range. Only points within the identifier range entered will be reported on. This field is only available if the Point ID comparison method is selected. If the system is in Block mode, leaving this field blank will select all duplicate points within the block definition; entering a range will select those points which are both within the range and defined by the block. Note that a point will not be used if its group is not displayed. |
Use Comparison File |
Specify whether a comparison file is to be used. If active, for any point selected in the current file, the points selected for comparison will be from the comparison file specified. If not active, for any point selected in the current file, the points selected for comparison will be from the currently open file. |
Folder | Display the folder of the comparison file. |
File name | Select the comparison file. |
Browse | Display the Browse dialog box for selecting the comparison file. |
Comma Delimited | Select that the reported data be comma delimited suitable for opening in spreadsheets. |
OK |
Perform the comparison operation and produce the comparison report. The operation may take a considerable period of time to complete, particularly for large data sets. |
Cancel | Close the dialog box. |
If a comparison file is not used,
- In Point ID mode, each Main Point in the current file is compared
to non main points of the same identifier in the current file.
In Location mode, each main point in the current file is compared to all points meeting the search criteria in the current file, whether they are main points or not.
If a comparison file is used,
- In Point ID mode, only Main Points of the same identifier in each file will be compared.
In Location mode, each main point in the current file is compared to all points meeting the search criteria in the comparison file, whether they are main points or not.
The status of a point in the report is indicated by a letter shown after the point identifier.
M | Main Point |
R | Resolved Point |
If a point identifier is not followed by M or R, then it is a duplicate point which is neither a main point nor a resolved point.
