(This functionality is available
with the Computations module)
Creates a new alignment and associated line and points at the intersection of batters from an existing alignment with the current model.
To run this option, select the Create/Alignment command and the Method/Batter Slope command from the Computations task to display the relevant dialog box.
The alignment to be created will be a secondary alignment and be given the attributes currently defined via the Attributes/Alignment command. The lines to be created will be given the attributes currently defined via the Attributes/Line command, and the associated points created will be given the attributes currently defined via the Attributes/Point command.
To use this command, you must first have a current model. Ensure that the model you wish to intersect is the currently selected model in Display/Features/Model.
You must also have an existing primary alignment with section markers. The sections control where the batter intersection points with the model will be created. That is, there will be a new point created in the new alignment for each section marker, provided a model intersection is found. Refer to the rules below under the "Apply" item.
Note that elevations are interpolated along the alignment for each section marker without an elevation.
Create Alignment by Batter Slope dialog box
Item | Used to |
Alignment | Select the alignment from which the batters are to be applied. You may select any primary or secondary alignment. |
Search Offset | Enter the maximum search offset from the alignment,
beyond which an intersection between the batters and the model will not
be sought. A negative offset will be applied to the left of the existing alignment, whereas a positive offset will be applied to the right. Hence the sign of this field controls which side the new alignment will be created. |
Grade 1 and Grade 2 | Enter the grades of the two possible batter slopes. The grade is entered as a percentage or ratio as set in the Utilities/Configure/Units command. Notes:
|
Apply | Create a new alignment according to the following rules: An intersection point between the batters and the model is computed for each primary alignment section marker, and each key point in the alignment from which the batters are projected. The direction of the batters is always perpendicular to the alignment from which they are projected. At bends in the alignment, the intersection point is created in the direction of the bend bisector. If the alignment from which the batters are projected is a secondary alignment, the batter direction will be different to the section marker direction, unless the primary and secondary alignments are parallel. The batters start at the intersection of the section marker direction with the secondary alignment, and then head perpendicular to the secondary alignment. For each section marker or key point: If more that one batter to model intersection is found, the point created is the one that has the smallest offset from the selected alignment. If no batter to model intersection is found, the point cannot be created, and the resulting alignment will not be coincident with the model at that chainage. The created points are joined by a line string to make up the new alignment. The alignment will only be coincident with the model at the intersection points generated. |
