data base

The File/New command is selected from the Utilities task.

New File dialog box

Item Used to
Save in: Select the folder in which the new data base will be created.
File Name: Key in the new data base name. Do not key in any file extension.
Save as type: LISCAD files are always created with a SEE extension.
Proj. Type:

Select the projection type for the data base to be created. By default the Projection type and Projection will set the same as the previous new file that was created.
Initially the default is "Plane" whereby all computations will be in plane trigonometry.
Projection types that may be selected from the drop list include:

  • Transverse Mercator (Includes UTM)
  • Lambert Conformal Conic
  • Double Stereographic
  • Oblique Mercator
  • NAD27 Transverse Mercator
  • NAD27 Lambert Conformal Conic
  • Swiss
  • New Zealand
  • Rectified Skew Orthomorphic

If a Projection type is selected that does not have any Projections installed a message box will appear. You will then be given the opportunity to install projections from the system defined projections. If you respond Yes, the Install/Remove Projections dialog will appear allowing you to install any relevant projections and returning to the New File dialog. If you respond No, the Projection type will revert back to Plane.

Projection: Select the Projection required from the drop down list. If the projection you require is not in the drop down list first check in the Install/Remove Projections dialog to see if the projection you are after is already available to be installed. If you cannot find the projection required you can create a new projection by going to Manage Projections.
Earth Constants: Display the Earth Constants dialog box and enter the required values. It is imperative that these constants are correct, as they govern the relationship between ground distances and plane distances.
Details: Display the New File Details dialog box and enter the data base details.
The details may also be left blank or edited later using the Utilities/Edit/Details command.
OK Create the new data base and close the dialog box.
The OK button is only active after a file name has been entered.
Cancel Close the dialog box without creating a new data base.
