(This functionality is available with the Profiles and Design module)
Computes a volume. Uses either a single or a two surface end area volume between the nominated chainages.
The volume computation will always include the centroid correction and it is computed between each successive pair of sections where the end area can be determined.
The user should ensure that consecutive cross sections never cross each other, as erroneous volumes will result between such cross sections.
The user should ensure that cross sections are placed at all arc ends to ensure that the centroid correction is never ambiguous. Each consecutve pair of cross sections must be on the same straight of curve, otherwise the centroid correction and hence the volume between those cross sections may be erroneous.
The Volumes/Volume by End Areas command is selected from the Profiles task in the cross section view and is only enabled if the user has successfully defined the end areas.
This command displays the End Area Volumes dialog box.
End Area Volumes dialog box
Item | Used to |
Start Chainage/Distance: | Display and select the chainage of the first end area for the volume computation. These fields will be titled either Chainage or Distance depending upon the configuration set in the Configure/Alignment dialog. |
End Chainage/Distance: | Display and select the chainage of the first last area for the volume computation. These fields will be titled either Chainage or Distance depending upon the configuration set in the Configure/Alignment dialog. |
Cut bulking factor: | Apply a bulking factor to the volumes of cut. |
Fill compaction factor: | Apply a compaction factor to the volumes of cut. If single surface end is being used for the volume computation then the Cut bulking factor and Fill compaction factor field will be replaced by one field. i.e. Bulking / Compaction factor. |
Use next section if no end are exists: | If selected, if the end area cannot be formed the section will be
ignored and the next section will be used instead. Whenever a cross section is skipped because the end area cannot be computed it will be reported at the end of the volume report. |
Use prismoidal formula: | If selected, the prismoidal formula will be used to calculate the volumes, otherwise the volumes will be calculated by end area. |
OK: | Computes the volume, closes the dialog and a volume report is displayed. |
Cancel: | Closes the dialog without applying the changes. |
Please Note: All values in the report are reported in grid.
