Lookup Table

The Lookup Table is used to match the feature codes of an incoming data set to the feature codes in your currently open Code Table, thereby quickly determining the attributes of data imported into the system from some other source.

Use of a lookup table is optional. If a lookup table is not used then each code in the incoming data set should be defined in the code table. If it is not present in the code table, then the object will be assigned to the DEFAULT code and attributes.

The lookup table consists of pairs of alphanumeric codes. For each pair, the first code is a feature code in the code table and the second code is a feature code in the incoming (foreign) data set.

The LISCAD feature code can be a maximum of 8 alphanumeric characters. The foreign feature code can be up to 255 alphanumeric characters.

In this manner, by simply matching feature code pairs, you are able to fully define the attributes of incoming data without the need to set up a specially tailored code table for each different coding system that you may encounter from other systems or sources.

Refer to the Code Table topic for details of the attributes that may be set via the code table.
