Trimble TSC1 Default Settings.

(This functionality is available with the Input / Output module)

LISCAD imports and exports, when using the Trimble TSC1 device, in Sokkia SDR 33 co-ordinate format. Ensure that the TSC1 is set to send and receive in this format.

The default communications settings are designed to work effectively if the TSC1 is set up as follows.

Important things to note when transferring data

  1. The import/export is performed using ASCII transfer. ("Send ASCII data" and "Receive ASCII data" on the TSC1 after selecting "Files / Import/Export")
  2. The TSC1 Controllers cannot always transfer to or from the current job. Ensure the job being transferred is not currently selected on the TCS1.
  3. When uploading to the TSC1 make sure that "Extended Format" is selected on the LISCAD "Output Point Co-ordinates" dialog. This is reached after pressing the "OK" button on the "Task/Field Transfer" "Output/Data Recorder" dialog box
  4. Use the "SDR33 Co-ordinates" file format on the TSC1 controller.
  5. The Baud rate should be set at a level appropriate for the equipment, including cable being used.
A Baud of 2400 when sending to LISCAD, and 9600 when sending from LISCAD have been typically found to work. It may be possible to change these, depending upon individual circumstances.
  6. There is a known problem when uploading data to LISCAD, with the end of file not being correctly marked in some versions of the TSC1 onboard software. When using this software LISCAD may report - "Application Error #1252 Unable to communicate with port." - after the data recorder's "sending Data to SDR33" gas gauge has reached the 100% mark. This message can be ignored as the raw file on the PC should be good. This is no reason not to continue with the download procedure.

Transferring co-ordinate data from the TSC1

Ensure that you have carried out the appropriate steps in the procedure for Processing a Field Survey up to the step for initiating the transfer of the data. Then, to initiate the transfer, carry out the following on the TSC1.

The following procedure is based on the TSC1 data collector running firm ware: 1.4.3 and Trimble Survey Collector: 7.70. It may vary if other onboard software is used.

  1. Select "Files / Import/Export / Send ASCII data" on the TSC1.
  2. On the Send ASCII Data screen set the following values:
    • File Format: SDR33 Co-ordinates
    • Controller Port: Top
    • Baud: 2400
    • Parity: none
  3. Press the F1 key to send the data.
  4. Select job to send. Note ensure this is not the current job.
  5. Select data required to send.

Transferring co-ordinate data to the TSC1

Use the Output/Data Recorder command to put the system in a ready state to send co-ordinates to the TSC1. A dialog box should be displayed asking if the data recorder is ready to receive data. Then, to place the TSC1 in a ready state, carry out the following on the TSC1.

  1. Select "Files / Import/Export / Receive ASCII data" on the TSC1.
  2. On the Receive ASCII Data screen set the following values:
    • File Format: SDR33 Co-ordinates
    • Controller Port: Top
    • Baud: 9600
    • Parity: none
  3. Press the F1 key to receive the data.
  4. Select job to receive. Note ensure this is not the current job.

Then select the OK button in the LISCAD dialog box to commence the data transfer. The job created in the TSC1 with the transferred data will have the same name as the data base from which the co-ordinates were transferred.
