The default communications settings are designed to work effectively if the Topcon FC-4 data recorder is set up as follows.

On the FC-4, this setting is made via the Select Parameters/FC-4/Baud Rate menu item.
Transferring data from the FC-4
Ensure that you have carried out the appropriate steps in the procedure for Processing a Field Survey up to the step for initiating the transfer of the data. Then, to initiate the transfer, carry out the following on the FC-4.
- From the opening menu, select:
F3 File Manager
then,F2 Data Transfer
then,F1 Send a File. - At the Send File? prompt, key in the name of the file to be sent followed by the Enter key to commence data transfer. (To view the names of the available files, from the opening menu, select File Manager/File Maintenance/Directory.)
Transferring co-ordinate data to the FC-4
- From the opening menu, select:
F3 File Manager
then,F2 Data Transfer
then,F2 Receive a File. - At the Receive File? prompt, key in the name of the file on the FC-4,
into which the co-ordinates are to be uploaded. Then press the Enter key to
put the FC-4 in a ready state. The FC-4 will display the following prompt:
Receiving No. -> - Use the Output/Data Recorder command to send the co-ordinates from the system to the FC-4.
