Station Settings Dialog Box

(This functionality is available with the Input / Output module)

This dialog box is displayed after selecting the New Station button in any of the following dialog boxes:

It is used to enter the instrument set up information for a new instrument station. The observations are stored in the currently open Field File.

Item Used to
Station Pt ID: Key in the identifier of the new instrument station.
Instrument Ht: Key in the height of the trunnion axis above the new station point.
The units are defined by the current Distance Units setting in the Utilities/Configure/Units command.
No Orientation - On Datum: Select this radio button if the horizontal circle readings from the station are on datum and an observation was not taken to a backsight point or reference azimuth.
BS Pt. ID: Key in the backsight point identifier.
This field may only be accessed and used if the corresponding radio button is active.
This field should only be used if the backsight point has known co-ordinates.
BS Reference Azimuth: Key in the true azimuth from the station point to the backsight point.
This field may only be accessed and used if the corresponding radio button is active.
This field should only be used if the backsight point co-ordinates are unknown, but the azimuth to the backsight point is known.
BS Horizontal Circle: Key in the horizontal circle reading actually observed from the station point to the backsight point.
This field may only be accessed and used if either the BS Pt. ID. radio button is active or the BS Reference Azimuth radio button is active.
OK Save any changes to the station settings, write the appropriate record in the current field file and close the Station Settings dialog box.
Operation is returned to the appropriate spawning dialog box in which the new station settings will be displayed.
Cancel Close the dialog box without saving any changes to the station settings.
Operation is returned to the appropriate spawning dialog box.

The Station Settings dialog box caters for the following three types of instrument set ups:

  1. There is no backsight point and the bearing observations are to be on datum.
In this case, fill in the "Station Pt No" and "Instrument Ht" fields only. Ensure that the "No Orientation-On Datum" radio button is active.
  2. There is a backsight point of known co-ordinates.
In this case, ensure that the "BS Pt No" radio button is active, and fill in the "Station Pt No", "Instrument Ht", "BS Pt No" and "BS Horizontal Circle" fields.
Any difference, between the observed BS horizontal circle and the bearing computed between the station and BS points, will be applied to the observations from this set up when the field file is reduced.
  3. There is backsight point and the bearing to the backsight point is known but the backsight point co-ordinates are not known.
In this case, ensure that the "BS Reference Azimuth" radio button is active, and fill in the "Station Pt No", "Instrument Ht", "BS Reference Azimuth" and "BS Horizontal Circle" fields.
Any difference, between the observed BS horizontal circle and the BS reference azimuth will be applied to the observations from this set up when the field file is reduced.
