This topic documents the field operations that are to be used when performing field surveys with a Kern Alpha Cord or Beta Cord for processing in the system.
The Kern Standard Structure Record types 1, 2, 3 & 4 are supported.
Station Setup options
A station setup is defined by record type 2 as follows:
- Field 1Station Identifier
- Field 2Backsight Station Identifier
- Field 3Instrument Height
- Field 4Temperature
- Field 5Pressure
A station setup record (type 2) must be followed by a measurement record (type 3).
The first field in the measurement record is the Point Identifier.
To treat the set up as orientated based on the backsight station identifier, the point identifier of the observation record must be the same as the backsight station identifier in field 2 of setup record.
If this condition is not met, then the observations will be treated as on datum.
Example

The setup is at point identifier 100 backsighted to point identifier 200.
Since the following observation is to point identifier 200, the setup will be orientated.
If the observation was to any other point identifier, the observations would be treated as on datum.
