Import Leica Geo Office

(This functionality is available with the Input / Output module)

Imports data from Leica Geo Office (LGO).

Refer also to the Import dialog box topic.

Existing Leica Geo Office Project names (found in the Leica database) are displayed in the Projects list box with their location on your system. Select the project you wish to import. The line at the bottom of the dialog indicates whether the selected Project is on a projection. If it is, the name of the project is displayed.

The Leica Geo Office Project's points Code Group corresponds to LISCAD's points Group.
The Leica Geo Office Project's points Code corresponds to LISCAD's points Code.

When importing an LGO project into LISCAD, the following rules apply;

  1. If local grid coordinates are available in LGO, then LISCAD imports East and North coordinates and orthometric heights*.
  2. If WGS84 coordinates are available and a projection is attached in LGO, then LISCAD imports East and North coordinates and orthometric heights*.
    Note: If ellipsoid heights are present but no geoid model is attached in LGO, then no heights are imported as orthometric heights are not available.
  3. If WGS84 coordinates are available and no projection is attached in LGO, then LISCAD imports Latitude and Longitude coordinates and orthometric heights*. Note: If no orthometric height is available in LGO, but there is an ellipsoidal height, then LISCAD's current geoid separation setting will be applied to the ellipsoid height to determine the orthometric height.
  4. Any points which have WGS84 co-ordinates will be imported directly into LISCAD if either the Leica Geo Office project is on a projection, or the LISCAD project is based upon the WGS84 ellipsoid. These points will also be imported correctly if the LISCAD project is not WGS84 based, although still on some projection and there exists a transformation which enables WGS84 co-ordinates to be converted to the current LISCAD projection. Any such transformations will be displayed in the Transformation drop down box and can be selected.
  5. Any points which have WGS84 co-ordinates can NOT be imported into a LISCAD Plane project, unless the Leica Geo Office project is on a projection.

  6. * Orthometric heights will be imported if they are available in LGO

NOTE: Avoid having Leica Geo Office active at the same time that LISCAD is attempting an import as both applications are unable to access the Leica database at the same time. If the situation occurs where the Leica message appears stating "Another application is using the Leica database. Please terminate that application!" follow this procedure:

  1. Do NOT click the OK button on the Leica message box.
  2. Maximise the Leica Geo Office application and close it down.
  3. Maximise LISCAD again. If the Leica message box appears in front of the maximised LISCAD application, click the OK button on it now and proceed with the import.
  4. If the Leica message box does not appear in front of the maximised LISCAD application, right click on the minimised message box and click close. This should enable you to proceed with the import. If the import still does not work, shut down LISCAD and start again without Leica Geo Office activated at the same time.
